About Me
I was born in Penzance, Cornwall and come from a very musical family. Studying music was a very important part of childhood and my studies took me to train professionally, being awarded a music scholarship to study in Manchester at an early age and then to the Royal Academy of Music in London for 5 years
I’m Rachel Maisey
I left Penzance as a student age 12 after having won a music scholarship at Chethams school of Music in Manchester and gained entry to Royal Academy of Music in London aged 18 for a further 5 years.
I then became a freelancer working in the major orchestras including Bournemouth Symphony, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Guildford Philharmonic before settling at the Welsh National Opera as First Violin.
After having two wonderful children, for the last 14 years, I have become a private music teacher for both Piano and Violin, and also worked for the Cardiff and Vale Music Service teaching Piano and Violin in local schools at all levels and abilities across infant, junior and senior school age.
I moved back to Penzance in 2024.

Qualifications
I play Piano and Violin pretty well…. but importantly I’m also a very good and experienced patient teacher.
I have full D.B.S. (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance, regular accredited Child Safeguarding Training, along with inset training on examination techniques and current teaching methodology.
Safeguarding is a key consideration. I ensure children are free from harm, free from the risk of harm and feel safe and happy learning music with me.
I am a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London and qualified as a music teacher Licentiate Royal Academy of Music (LRAM) in 1992.
I’m a sucker for great music. It’s inspiring, relaxing and has huge social benefits enabling you to become a more rounded and complete person.
